The North

Rolling valleys and wooded hills are home to local artisans

From San Juan's thronging Sunday market to the artisan-packed Puig de Missa in San Miguel, the north is where you'll find covetable crafts and colourful characters. Benirrás beach (with the excellent Elements restaurant) is a must-do, although avoid Sundays if hippies with bongos aren't your thing. S'Illot des Rencli and Cala Xarraca beaches both have rustic fish shacks. The blossomy, finca-studded valleys of Santa Agnès and Sant Mateu are hopelessly romantic.

Top tip:

At sunset, take the teetering coastal road from Benirras to Port San Miguel and soak up the psychedelic sea views.
