Industry meets artistry

The historic area of Poblenou has an industrial past, and today the abandoned factories that once formed the heart of Catalan industry have been converted to make way for design studios, art schools, workshops, showrooms and gastro-labs.

Oh, and of course, restaurants: think Can Recasens for cheese, ham and wine, Nomad for coffee and El 58 for tapas. And then of course, there’s the beach.

Top tip:

Get off at the Llacuna subway station, take in the street art, and look into every open door: there could be a Hell’s Angels bar, woodworking studio or trapeze school inside.
