Malasaña

Old-meets-new with a lively bar scene

A melting pot of traditional Madrid, hipster haunts and high/low restaurants, its biggest attractions are the squares like San Ildefonso and Plaza del Dos De Mayo. Try to get a table and while the afternoon away people-watching in the sunshine with a cerveza. It’s also one of liveliest areas with bars scattered throughout like La Vía Láctea, El Penta, Freeway and the outrageously kitsch Tupperware Club.

Top tip:

Partying here finishes up at around 3am. From then you'll have to find a proper nightclub.
