Gordon’s Wine Bar

London’s oldest wine bar

For a medieval London experience without the cheesiness, head to Gordon’s Wine Bar. Considered London’s oldest wine bar, settings don’t get much more romantic than this candlelit Dickensian gem. Get there early (from 5pm) to nab a table in the hugely popular vaulted ‘cave’, and make your way through their solid wine list. It goes without saying, but tackling the cheese menu (with over 20 to choose from) is practically mandatory.

Top tip:

People with claustrophobia, be warned: the low ceilings and medieval ventilation could prove difficult. However, there is a terrace during summer.
