Columbia Road Flower Market

East London’s colourful Sunday market

Forget Covent Garden: the modern day Eliza Doolittle is flogging her flowers at Columbia Road Flower Market. Open only on Sundays, the market is overflowing with much haggling over “10 for a fiver” deals. Come for the flowers (stalls close at around 2:30pm) but stay for the unique east London vibe of independent galleries and shops selling pottery, antiques and the like.

Top tip:

Look for the yellow door marked 124 for 1235 donuts, baked by acclaimed southern US of A chef Brad McDonald and sold from his doorstep. These warm, filled doughnuts are the best in the capital. Be quick, they sell out fast.
