Cala Boix

Charcoal sand and a cracking fish restaurant

Ibiza's only black sand beach is tucked away in the north, far from the touristy crowds. There's a steep flight of stone steps to get to the beautifully rugged, enclosed cove, where a simple wooden chiringuito sells ice-cold mojitos in plastic cups. The water can be choppy near the shore but that means it's never overcrowded.

Top tip:

La Noria, the pretty restaurant at the top of the steps, serves a mean salt-baked fish on its pine-shaded, sea-view terrace.
