French via New York Brasserie

Not just a replica of its New York parent, Balthazar London has its own identity. Soaring ceilings, ornate French décor and sultry ambient lighting may make this one of the more glamorous propositions close to the hotel, but the atmosphere is anything but stuffy. Even breakfast meetings here are fun. The menu, serving everything from breakfast to post-theatre, is mostly France by way of New York: scrambled eggs with crab, garlic prawns and steak tartare. Do Balthazar the UJ way and perch at the bar, order Champagne and the niçoise salad, and settle into an evening of people watching.

Top tip:

For a quick pitstop or simply to refuel, the boulangerie next door sells a delicious array of freshly baked goods from artisan breads to homemade pastries and a range of salads and sandwiches to eat in or takeaway.
